He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” Genesis 15:5
This encounter between God and Abram was previous to Abram having children. Was this “vision of heaven” some insight for Abram to realize the vast creation that God had provided? To “count the stars, if you are able,” was an impossible task. Have you ever tried it? After several minutes, you come to realize the counting will never end. Then the Lord tells Abram, “So shall your descendants be.” The miracle of creation will continue well beyond a number that Abram, nor I, can count! And I go back to “looking toward heaven and counting the stars.” Could the “stars in heaven” represent all those that have passed before us? Each is a shining light in God’s presence, burning infinitely in faith and love. May we all look forward to becoming a “star” in heaven, a reward that comes from our love for our precious Savior.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank you for the miracle of your creation and the promise of becoming a star in heaven. Amen.
